Sleeping in your makeup and why it’s not the best idea…

As skincare Experts with over 65 years’ experience in the professional beauty industry, we are always asked our advice, we love to share our knowledge and experience with you all.

So why is sleeping in your make-up a no-no?

From being out and about your skin will be covered in make-up, trapped under the makeup will be sweat and natural oils that your skin produces, both of which breed bacteria. Your makeup will also be covered with atmospheric dirt as well as pollution particles which contain heavy metals like mercury and arsenic. Too many free-radicals and your skin’s collagen and elastin levels will suffer meaning an onset of premature lines and wrinkles, plus you will allow your skin to become clogged, with makeup, oil, and pollutants causing blocked pore, blackheads and spots.
Furthermore, dirt and makeup will transfer onto your bedding – especially your pillow, which night after night will transfer back onto your face!

What to do next…

While you sleep your body repairs itself.  It rids itself of dead blood and braincells and your skin is in its most active, regeneration and repair mode.  To give yourself a fighting chance, clean off your makeup (with your first cleanse) and clean your skin (with your second cleanse). Now apply the ingredients that your skin needs to thrive – your will find these in your concentrates and treatment creams.
Failure to commit will lead to dull, dehydrated, dry, devitalised and congested skin.  Lines and wrinkles will be more apparent and repair/regeneration will be limited, and when you do put your makeup back on the next day it will never look its best because your skin beneath will not be its best.

There is also the risk of skin sensitivity, not to mention the possibility of allergic reactions to makeup in the long term – imagine becoming allergic to make-up and not being able to wear your favourite brands again?!
