Our body is amazing, treat it with love and care, it is the only place that you have to live.
‘It is very difficult to be patient and kind with yourself and others, when you are filling yourself with stimulants such as too much caffeine and refined sugars and eating a diet high in processed foods that is virtually devoid of nutrients.’ Dr Libby.
Do you ever sit and wonder just how amazing your body is?
In a second every single cell coordinates billions of chemical reactions.
Every day our heart beats 100,000 times and pumps 7500 litres of blood through 96,000 kms of vessels.
We are made up of 50 trillion cells.
Every month our skin totally renews
Every 3 months we totally replace our blood supply.
Our bones renew every 10 years.
Children renew their skeleton every year and teens gain 50% of adult bone mass between 12-18 years.
The problem is that many of us are not getting the essential nutrition to build, protect, maintain and restore.
We are living too short and dying too long. It is the life in our years that is so important rather than the years in our life that is important.
Our nervous system plays a huge part in our health and by protecting it we can achieve total health.
THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Our sympathetic nervous system is constantly triggered by exposure to caffeine and our perception of pressure such as work load and too little time to carry out a never ending list of tasks.
The parasympathetic nervous system needs to be stimulated to produce a rest and digest environment for our body. We need to upgrade and regulate the parasympathetic nervous system and can do so by carrying out diaphragmatic breathing:
Sit relaxed with hands on your stomach, practise deep breathing through your stomach. Breath in deeply and exhale in a long slow exhalation,
Practise restorative techniques such as Thai chi, qi gong, yoga and deep breathing to create well being.
